Gregory Slaughter was bitten by a shark in Galveston, Texas.
The 13-year-old was in waist-deep water with his brother Bobby Anderson,17, near a seawall. Suddenly a school of fish surrounded the boys and they decided to swim back to the shore. That’s when the shark hit, biting Gregory’s hands and foot. Bobby heard his brothers cry and came to his aid. He punched the estimated 4- to 5-foot long shark which swam away.
Both teens were able to make it back to the beach and Gregory was given first aid. He was then taken to the hospital where he needed surgery.
Gregory suffered a severe laceration to his left Ankle, a small fracture in his thumb and currently cannot move his hand. Doctors repaired several tendons around his left ankle and three tendons in his left ring finger.
After some time in a wheel chair, he is expected to make a full recovery.
The location has been marked on the 2015 Shark Attack Tracking map.
